Student FAQ's (10)

The most common reason audio recording and/or playback do not appear to be working is that you are using Internet Explorer (IE) 10, IE 11 or Safari and either (1) do not have Flash installed or (2) Flash is installed, but you’ve blocked Flash plug-ins in your browser. If you use Chrome or Firefox or Edge, Flash should not be required.

For instructions on enabling Flash in your browser (we prefer Chrome) please review this article

Most of Junction’s OER-based courses use OpenStax textbooks as a primary reference. In those cases, we suggest you refer to the OpenStax web site for the appropriate citation for the title in question. For example, OpenStax Sociology 2e carries a suggested citation of “OpenStax College, Introduction to Sociology 2e. OpenStax College. 24 April 2015.”

If you are referencing non-textbook content in a Junction OER course, you can use the general reference:
“Junction Biology.” Junction Education. Princeton, NJ. Accessed April 16, 2018 http://.

For a course provided by one of Junction’s publishing partners, kindly refer to their textbook or ebook for specific citation requirements. If you are citing a publisher’s non-book content in Junction you can use the format provided above for non-textbook content substituting the course title and publisher name and location fields for those matching your course.

Please use the suggested citation style – e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago Manual of Style, etc. – recommended by your instructor.

You generally have a few options on how to pay for a course on Junction which depend on how your instructor has opted to configure access:

  1. Go to your campus bookstore and inquire about an access code card for your course.  In some cases you’ll find a physical card stocked on the bookshelf under your course number, in other cases you may have to go to the register and supply them with your course number.  When you pay they will print the access code on your receipt.  In either case please hold on to the access code as you’ll need to redeem it within Junction when prompted.
  2. Pay for access directly within Junction.  Most courses provide for courtesy access for the first week or two of class after which you’ll see a pop up after you log in prompting you to pay before continuing to access your course materials.  Payment can be made via credit card securely online or via redemption of a bookstore purchased access code from option 1.

These are the only authorized channels for purchasing Junction access codes.  If you procure a code card or access code via another channel (eBay, Craigslist, etc.) you will have to contact your point of purchase regarding returns, replacements or other issues.

So to get going all you need is a device with an internet connection and a supported browser pointed to Junction and you’re good to go!

Junction requires no separate downloads or plugins, but if you’d like you’re welcome to use our iPad app.

Instructor FAQ's (17)

Junction is simply the best, most engaging, most effective and affordable courseware available today.

Courseware? It’s a relatively new term used to describe a complete, integrated package of course materials assembled for, and delivered by, the web. Junction takes all of the materials you would find in a typical syllabus including quizzes, readings, videos, articles, discussion boards and more and weaves them together into a simple, beautiful, learning experience.  It’s a complete course that you can customize to your needs.  Take a look and see why more than 4 out of 5 students rate Junction as more effective in supporting their learning than alternatives.

Junction believes in fair, transparent pricing. We offer no add-ons, upsells or other upcharges.

Junction is designed around how today’s students learn. Over 79% of students start studying by seeking out short-form videos and then discover additional study resources on the web spanning terms and definitions, study guides, flash cards and more. Junction subject matter experts discover, evaluate and curate these study resources, align them to learning objectives, and weave them into a complete course experience.

Textbooks are still important, so we use a variety of peer-reviewed open-source textbooks, including many from OpenStax College, in all of our courses.

Combine rich video, flash cards, textbooks, assessments (powered by Learnosity), an early warning system, video office hours, secure in-app messaging, learning insights and more – at an affordable price – and you get a learning experience that is far more engaging, and far more affordable, than a traditional textbook.

Junction courses utilize cognitive and metacognitive evaluations as well as research-driven memory reinforcement and decay models to drive an adaptive overlay to your course.

For instructors, this means that every student is using the same set of course materials making it easier to support them in their learning journey in your course.

For students, you save time by being directed to the resources in the course that you should be reviewing – in addition to the current lesson and assignments identified by your instructor. But you don’t just get a laundry list, you can see what resource types are available – videos, presentations, readings, flash cards, etc. – and can self-select what you’d like to use to study and learn.

Absolutely!  Junction is continuously tracking student progress and mastery, as shown in the progress bar at the top of each student’s dashboard.  They can complete a course in as little or as much time as you’d allow for them.  We’ve already seen students successfully complete courses in as little as four, or as long as twenty, weeks.  As an instructor, you can always assess each student’s progress from the Faculty Insight Center and can compare their engagement and assessment results, by lesson, against a cohort.  Want more information?  Drop us a line.

Our course authors all have experience teaching blended, hybrid and fully online to ensure that the course experience in Junction is suitable for all possible modes of deployment.

After the courses are built, they also go through a multi-step vetting process including passing through additional sets of instructors as reviewers (for one or more lessons at a time) and pilots (from a few lessons through the complete course) before becoming broadly available.
